Oil Painting of Seated Youth

The image is after a red chalk drawing from the great master Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475-1564), “Study of the Nude Youth Over the Prophet Daniel for the Sistine Chapel Ceiling”. I’ve rearranged the pose slightly and brought in an abstract landscape and changed the medium rendered into oil paints.

The colors used are Permanent Rose, Cadmium Scarlet, Indian Red, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Viridian, Winsor Blue (Red Spectrum), Prussian Blue, Ivory Black and Titanium White. I hope you enjoy this image.

I am a practicing artist working on my craft for over fifty years. I work in many different mediums. Oil, watercolor, pastel, graphite and charcoal are my favorites mediums. The subjects I enjoy most are life studies and landscapes, both in the studio, using a model or on site plein aire capturing the moment in time. I do this by trying to interpret the image using all my experience and insight from the many joyful years of practice.
