I am sort of beginning again. I’ve stepped away to focus on guitar and my practice learning how to read music. I have missed painting. I am reintroducing myself my rejoining the life study that Broome County Arts Council offers the first and third Tuesday of each month 6pm to 9pm. This is a group activity, which I also desire. To socially connection with other artists is a must. I genuinely miss the interaction. I’ve also decided to paint in solvent free oils. Obviously, the space shared with other artists deserves this consideration. I’ll be working with the guidance of the book, ‘The New Oil Painting, Your Essential Guide to Materials and Safe Practices’, by Kimberly Brooks. My limited palette will consist of Winsor & Newton Artist Oils, Permanent Mauve, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber (Green Shade), and Underpainting White. I am really looking forward to the painting session. I hope to get a great photo of the completed study and post it here on my website. Thank you, Michael

Just a Bit of Review
Thought I would present a video I took many years ago. The beginning of this video shows the palette I use for oil painting. The only modification to the original palette was to replace Winsor Green (Blue Spectrum) with Viridian. My reason was that Winsor Green (Blue Spectrum) was too potent a color and dominated too much. Viridian is the same value of green, but with far less intensity and does not dominate as greatly. The rest of the video documents my attempt at completing a self-stretched canvas isolated with a coat of Rabbit Skin Glue and once dried primed with Winsor & Newton Oil Primer with Alkyd Resin as the binder. The pigment suspended in this mixture is Titanium Dioxide. I finished the surface with a coat of Cadmium Red Light Hue from Winsor & Newton Griffin Alkyd Resin. Thank you for your interest.

Bold Watercolor Face

Bold Watercolor Face This image is originally from a life study worked on at the BCAC, Broome County Arts Council, in Binghamton, NY. The original drawing was completed on 6″X8″ Blick Premier 140 LB. CP. The method was direct using Winsor & Newton Artists’ Watercolors. Once the painting was roughed in during the life study on site, the piece was completed in watercolor paints in the studio. The colors I used were Permanent Rose, Genuine Alizarin Crimson, Scarlet Lake, Lemon Yellow, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Viridian, Hooker’s Green, Cobalt Blue and Antwerp Blue.
